Meet Vicky Teather…

Hello there!
I’m Vicky – multi-award winning creator of all the super cute sugar decorations you’ll see on this site and on my socials. I’m also an author, having written two books and oodles of magazine articles and tutorials… exciting stuff! I love teaching and sharing my knowledge, helping you to create sugary cuteness. I’m currently based in Basingstoke, Hampshire, where I live with my lovely husband and our five fluffy kitties.
What’s with the Bees?
Very long story short, I was the proud owner of a Yellow Fiat Seicento, which was nicknamed ‘Bumble’. My first business was called Bumble Cakes… but unfortunately we ended up with an awkward trademark legal malarkey, and I had all this bee themed stuff, business cards, posters etc. So, whilst sitting eating a rather large bar of Galaxy chocolate to cheer myself up, I had the brain wave of the Yellow Bee Bakery, it rhymed! But… I kept getting asked where my bakery was and I don’t have the first clue about baking bread (even if I love bread, potentially more than cake!) – so I swapped to the Yellow Bee Cake Company. That wasn’t a short answer, was it!? Ha!

You mentioned a new book?
Yes! I’ve spent the past few months squirrelling away on my latest book. I’ve pretty much been chained to my studio for the past four months. I’ve been designer, creator, photographer, writer, editor, proof reader and general dogsbody. It’s been a real labour of love and I’m incredibly proud of myself.
For Cuteness Cake features 16 brand new animal tutorials. I’ve split the animals into four sections, pets, farm, wild and woodland and chosen the most popular animals from each. I love sharing my modelling knowledge and it’s been really exciting to be in complete control of this book and its contents.

Why did you name it ‘For Cuteness Cake’?
I spent ages mulling over the title. I think it took longer to come up with the title than it did to lock in all the designs for the book! I wanted something a little different from the standard cake decorating book title, and it had to have the word cute in there I also love a good pun. If you follow my social media, you’ll have already known that. Combine puns, cute and cakes and you’ll end up with “For Cuteness Cake”!
Can I learn to make cute sugar models too?
One of my passions is to share my skills and knowledge with others. It doesn’t matter if you have no experience with sugar, I want to show you how to create cute cake toppers. I’m here to support you whilst you gain the skills and confidence you need to create your own amazing sugar models.
I teach in person, online, in magazines, and of course, you can learn from my books.
There’s also the Yellow Bee Club where you’ll find lots of tutorials ready and waiting for you.

Can we talk about the cats?
My favourite topic!
I have 5 floofers. Muffin is our eldest, she was a stray that was sitting out in the rain looking worse for wear. It took a while, but we eventually tempted her to come in and become part of the family. She’s currently sleeping on my desk.
George is our resident ginger and also a lovable idiot. He had a brother, Fred, who we lost to the road. My heart is still broken over him.
Then we have Draco and Luna. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you will notice the names may match up to some characters XD Draco and Luna are Norwegian Forest cats. Draco is a silver tabby and a huge baby. He likes waking me up in the night for a cuddle by patting my face with his claws out. So I’ve often got scratches, but he doesn’t know he’s hurting me. Luna is a “blue” and white, but I think its just dark grey! She’s very particular as to what she likes, and that is my left arm. She won’t sit on anyone else, and she’ll only sit on me if she can knead my left arm. Has to be the left, the right is rubbish apparently.
And finally we have our newest addition, Albus. Albus came to us as a rescue. One of my lovely subscribers knew of a cat needing a home and asked if we could take him in. He’s also a Norwegian Forest cat and he is HUGE!
How long have you been making cakes?
My Nan taught me to bake and I had the occasional dabble at Christmas time as a child. My charming mother says the cake decoration always had a grey tinge to it as, being a typical child, I wasn’t washing my hands between all the liquid food coloured marzipan… oops! Anyway, back to the story. I started professionally decorating cakes in 2011 and I now wash my hands a lot…
Do you sell cakes?
I made the decision in 2015 to stop customer cakes, which has allowed me to spend more time creating tutorials and teaching. I have chronic fatigue, so I already struggle to get everything done that I want to. If anyone knows how to create another me, then get in touch :D
Do you have an online shop?
I do, and you can buy a copy of my lovely new book, For Cuteness Cake! Keep an eye on the shop, and join my newsletter, as we will be releasing new goodies very soon!
